Saludos! I am Señorita Schott and I’m happy to be starting my first year here at St. Mary’s. I will be teaching Spanish to all grades, one day a week.
I grew up in a small town in central Wisconsin and attended college at the University of Wisconsin- Eau Claire. I graduated with a degree in Elementary Education and a minor in Spanish. During my time at university, I had the opportunity to spend one semester studying in Valladolid, Spain. My five months there solidified my love of learning about new cultures and the Spanish language.
After graduating, I taught K-8 Spanish for 4 years at another St. Mary’s’- St. Mary’s Springs in Fond du Lac. For 2 years, I taught 3 year old Preschool in Oshkosh. In 2012 I was asked to help translate for the church in Fond du Lac who was going to visit their sister parish in Rosita, Nicaragua. This was my first trip into Central America. Despite all my worries about large bugs (eek!), I had an amazing trip and God used this to call me back to Central America.
In the fall of 2012, I flew to Guatemala to teach Kindergarten to Spanish-speaking students at an English immersion school in the capital. At this school I was also able to share with my students the gospel of Jesus. I stayed on one more year and this past year I had the privilege of teaching the most incredible group of 1st graders! I would love to share with the families here at St. Mary’s more about my time in Guatemala!
Learning a second language is a wonderful, challenging journey and I’m excited to help the students at St. Mary’s begin to see the world of possibilities.
